The winner takes it all

Dermalogica, the world’s No. 1 professional skin care brand, is built on the guiding principles of education, personalisation, and the human touch. Since its launch in 1986, the professional skin therapist is the heart of everything at Dermalogica – it is a brand created by a therapist, for professional skin therapists.

In 2020, as COVID-19 put the world in lockdown, it also attacked the very foundation of the skin industry. Human touch and interaction, which is integral to every service, was now a taboo. As salons gradually reopened, skin services were initially not allowed, and then were slow to pick up. In all vigour, Dermalogica announced the PROSkin Masters 2020, a contest to test the knowledge, skill, and expertise of the professional skin therapists. The first edition of the contest saw more than 400 Dermalogicacertified skin therapists from across the country. Progressing through two rounds – an online written test and an in-depth interview with the expert panel – the top 10 were selected to compete in a digital finale.

The finale was an online event judged by a stellar jury comprising Angela Taylor, Global Education Manager, Dermalogica, Hinaa Khan, Head of Education, Dermalogica India and World Skills Jury Member, Vaishali Shah. Each therapist was paired with a consumer they had not met previously. As they went through the PROSkin 60 treatment, they were judged on their theoretical knowledge, consultation, understanding of the client’s needs and skill in delivery of the final service.

Pramaila Ram from Kolkata bagged the title of ProSkin Masters, Sharmila Dussani from Hyderabad was announced as the first runner up and Sanhita Chakraborty from Kolkata, the second runner-up. These winners took home a grand cash reward along with other prizes. The winners and their salons will also be featured in the global Dermalogica newsletter, reaching out to therapists across 110 countries.

The second edition of the Dermalogica PROSkin Masters is slated to kick off in March 2021.
