Located in the heart of Kolkata, AN John Academy was launched in 2007 and offers courses for all levels of experience in the hair industry, as well as training in relevant, day-today salon business. The founders had a passion for the hairdressing industry and believed it was time to create and structure courses that would stimulate and enhance hairdressers’ skills and techniques. 

History of the academy 

The academy is headed by Raman Bhardwaj, a prominent member of the hairdressing industry, with over 22 years of experience and a senior member of the prestigious L’Oréal Professional Dream Team. He has been the driving force behind creating the structure that the academy offers. Raman, believes that hairdressing is truly an art form, and that hairdressers constantly needs to reinvent their fashion technique through training. A principle of the AN John Academy is the belief that one can achieve their hairdressing dreams by following a set of certain principles and techniques.

When the academy was founded, there were not many other professional academies in the east of the country, resulting in a lack of proper guidance for the rapidly growing hair and beauty industry. Now, after 14 years, AN John Academy has created a niche for themselves and most importantly helped hundreds of hairdressers to achieve their goals.

Education at the academy 

The academy offers an extensive range of courses which are taught by award-winning trainers. The courses demonstrate the journey of the academy’s hair education from its inception to creating ultimate creative expertise. The philosophy of the academy is quality, empowerment, sharing knowledge, creativity, professionalism, and passion. The academy faculty has taught across various cultures, bringing together hairdressers by sharing technical skills that inspire, motivate, and empower the students to understand and help them pursue their ambition.

AN John Academy believes there is no easy way to fulfilling your goals of being a hairstylist – only with the right amount of application of skill and knowledge, the correct understanding of the craft, and usage of technique, can one create magic!

Types of training 

The academy offers various courses of all levels which help students to take the next step in any hairdressing career.

In the situation where a student cannot afford several years of training, the academy has partnered with L’Oréal Arth (Absolute Route To Hairdressing), to provide a beginners course, exclusively designed to support and elevate hairdressers to become the best version of themselves. It is a three-month diploma course that pays attention to the person’s skills, and guides students through each fundamental step of becoming a hairdresser.

The academy offers advance hairdressing three-day courses as well. Although these are short courses, they help the hairdresser to uncover key techniques of hairdressing on cut, colour, and styling. The courses are as follows:

• Essential Classics: This course is for hairdressers to improve and perfect their fundamental cutting techniques. With hands on guidance, they will learn and refine previously learnt skill and it will also give them technical accuracy and precision.

• Contemporary Pro: This course is designed to unlock the creative aspect of the hairdressing profession. Exposing the hairdressers to new ideas and fashion trends as they develop, progress towards creating more bespoke haircuts.

• Men’s Hairdressing: This course focuses on classic and fashion inspired trends. The course teaches you how to adapt trends to suit different hair textures and clients. This helps the hairdresser gain practical knowledge and confidence into men’s hair work.

Latest tech at the academy The academy has also created a fun and interactive space with latest hair technologies and amenities that help their students to improve and work on their skills. At AN John Academy, the team thinks that proper standardisation of courses within the top hairdressing institutions is crucial. Also, the current scenario forces them to re-think education in a different manner, shifting from the physical presence of a classroom to a digital platform. This has led to the creation of online classes and courses.
