The wedding season is just around the corner, and while brides have a lot on their check-list – from venues to lehengas – one thing they cannot neglect is hair care! Similar to skincare, hair care needs to start much before the big day. For all the bridesto-be who visit salons for some much-needed wedding prep, this also results into relaxation. So, what are the key points that salons and stylists need to factor in and consider while going about bridal hair care. Three industry experts share their tips:

Pre-wedding hair care: A bride’s hair needs prep for what is about to come during wedding festivities – heat, styling, tugging, tight pins, and product build-up like you have never seen before. The must-haves are deep conditioning masks, strengthening hair spa treatments, as well as serums that clarify the scalp, build root strength and prevent breakage.

A few accents of colour are a must for every bride to add dimension and life to the hair. Soft highlights will make most wedding hairstyles pop and help hair photograph well. A haircut is a must to make the ends look healthy, but we always ensure that the hair does not lose any length, keeping in mind the length and layers required for all wedding looks. One thing I always try to keep my brides away from are hair smoothening treatments. They severely limit styling options as most bridal styles require some texture and movement.

Post-wedding hair care: Hair requires a fair deal of rejuvenation, hydration and therapy post-wedding. I have my brides alternate between multiple sessions of Olaplex treatments and our Reborn Hair Spa to undo any heat and styling damage. Most brides also like to go short with their hair and change their style postwedding, which we always look forward to.

Pre-wedding hair care: With an undivided attention to all the big details of weddings, it is also crucial to take in to account the hair care routine. Deep Cleansing Rituals with FUSIO SCRUB are the ones to start with. A quick and effective ritual designed to intensely clean and reset the health of the scalp and hair, improving the performance of any subsequent treatment. FUSIO-SCRUB detoxifies the scalp, removes impurities from the hair, resulting in added volume and shine. There are some other great hair treatments such as Kerastase Chonologiste Ritual that brides-to-be can opt for, which gives complete hair and scalp rejuvenation.

Post-wedding hair care: It is equally important to take care of the hair post wedding, thanks to all the stress that the hair goes through during the wedding events. Apart from the regular home care regime, salon visits are advised to. Brides should look for treatments that exfoliate and condition the scalp so impurities are cleansed away. Kerastase Intense Nourishing Ritual provides the nourishment it needs. One can also opt for a bespoke hair and scalp care ritual that includes de-stressing aromatherapy massage gestures that enhance circulation and induce a state of relaxation and well-being. A routine visit hair care session every month is recommended.

Pre-wedding hair care: Special care needs to be taken prior to the wedding. I suggest the use of a dilute shampoo that is diluted with 50 per cent water. This helps in gently cleaning the hair and scalp. Towel dry, and do not squeeze dry the hair with the towel, and this should be followed by applying a conditioner 3 inches away from the scalp from the midlands to the ends. This then needs to be rinsed off with lukewarm or cold water or normal temperature. Avoid hot water when applying the conditioner. Besides hair care, it is important that the bride consults with the hairstylists for the look that will be required for the ‘D Day’ and if special care is required on the day of the wedding because some hairstylist prefer freshly washed hair for the wedding day hairstyle. If the bride plans to colour her hair, it needs to be done closer to the date of the wedding, else the roots will have regrowth and that will show up.

Post-wedding hair care: The bride also needs to know how to undo her hair post the wedding occasion because more than often, the hairdresses do the styling with strong products and do not explain the care that needs to be taken by the bride post the event to undo the hairstyle.

Brides do have a good go-to-product –a Sparkler Spray – by Schwarzkopf. Once sprayed on the hair, one needs to undo the hair gently with the fingers first and then use a wide tooth comb – start from the midlands and then from the roots very gently. Once all the knots open up, shampoo wash the hair the same night or even the following day should be fine. Oil need not be applied immediately. PBHJ
