Post COVID: Mumbai salons and spas deal with heavy demand

After the third wave, salons in Mumbai have gone back to operating at 100 per cent capacity and the salon owners and professionals say that the market is positive and there is a demand for specialised treatments. Although footfalls in stores are now 90 per cent of pre-COVID levels, the great thing is their average bill values are at over 40 per cent. Salons experienced at least 50 per cent reduction in footfalls in the month of January when restrictions were on in almost all fields. Now with everything relaxed, they are experiencing growth in not only hygiene services such as waxing, haircuts, manicure pedicure but fashion services such as hair colours, hair damage reversal treatments, hair spas, and of course, the ever-popular smoothening and keratin service. Salon owners across the city say that they are also experiencing growth in beauty services search – for example facials, nail bars and body treatments like body massages are getting popular.

Commemorating the art and business of Indian hairdressing at IHA 2021

In the previous year, L’Oréal Professional Paris had launched the French Balayage service, a professional twostep technique that gives clients made-to-measure, enviable sun-kissed hair colour that suits all hair bases, even the darkest ones, making it perfectly adaptable for Indian skin tones and hair. The key element of a French Balayage is its subtlety. The Indian Hairdressing Awards (IHA) by L’Oréal Professional Paris are the most anticipated awards in the Indian hairdressing industry. IHA has infused freshness into its format by introducing a theme this year to the contest for the very first time and that is the French Balayage. The French Balayage has become the biggest hair colour movement in the world, and earns its rightful place in the competition as this year’s participating hairdressers from across India have to create the perfect French Balayage look on a model presented to them at the competition itself.

Fix My Curls signs singer Palak Muchhal

Fix My Curls, an Indian wavy and curly hair care brand dedicated to helping people embrace their natural hair texture, has recently signed playback singer Palak Muchhal as its brand ambassador. The move comes as Fix My Curls looks to strengthen its connection with the youth and shift the narrative towards embracing curly hair instead of using chemicalladen alternatives. With a wide range of revolutionary products catering to various needs of everyone with curly and wavy hair, the brand aims to create an inclusive space for self-acceptance and love. The talented singer will be promoting various products under the Fix My Curls umbrella. Palak Muchhal said, “This association is very close to my heart. The narrative to tame curly hair in an effort to attain a certain standard of beauty is highly constricting and stereotyped. The notion that beauty is definitive is harmful to a person’s self-esteem and should be shunned altogether. I vouch for beauty in all forms, and I am especially proud of my curly hair. I am big on flaunting it in my social media posts and carry it with pride. Being extremely conscious of the products I use, Fix My Curls approach to toxinfree styling of curls resonated with me. The products help define my curls and add volume to my mane.”
