MAC cosmetics expands packaging takeback programme

MAC Cosmetics (Beauty Packaging’s 2020 Company of the Year) has expanded its Back-To-MAC take back programme to Germany, Norway, Greece and the Czech Republic to further its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its packaging. MAC created its take back programme 30 years ago with the goal of recycling or recovering as much of its black (ABS) plastic packages as possible. As a part of the programme, the company works with leading recycling partners around the world to recycle its ABS plastic into new plastic, which goes into the production of new materials for things like coffee machines, televisions, office supplies or electronic devices. Most MAC primary packaging (i.e., eye shadow pots, lipstick cases) can be returned as part of the Back-To-MAC programme.

In response to the rising e-commerce and continued demand for “natural and organic” and “cruelty-free” products, the colour cosmetics market is anticipated to expand at a 5 per cent CAGR over the forecast period 2021-2031, according to Future Market Insights (FMI). FMI had predicted in November 2021 that the global colour cosmetics market would exceed $50 billion by the end of 2021.
