Do you think sustainability is another fad that will pass or are you serious about integrating the protocol in your salon business? I earnestly hope that your answer is the latter.

Sustainability is definitely not a trend. It is the present and future of the salon business.

Very soon your customers are going to demand eco-friendly products and treatments as well as processes at your salon. It’s high time you don’t look at sustainability as an additional investment but consider integrating it in your business model. If you are looking at the western markets for inspiration with regards to hair and make-up trends, I urge you to look at them for environment consciousness, too. The impact that the salon industry has on the environment is undeniable and the sooner we learn our lessons the better.

Where should you begin? Start with small things. Reduce the use of plastic in your salon or one-time disposable products. If you must use them, explore biodegradable options. Cut down on water and electricity consumption.

Put some smart thinking into the interior design of your salon.

The least you can do is to separate the dry and wet waste.

The possibilities are endless, and every effort counts. We have dedicated an entire issue to sustainability because we believe that India’s salon industry can make a difference, and lead by example in a big way.
