Trend Guide 2023

New Year = New Look! With every customer in your salon bombarding you with queries about what’s new in cut, colour and style, you need to be on top of your game. kapil Sharma, Founder, kapil’s Salon and academy, gives priyanka parshurami a lowdown on the trends to watch out for in 2023.

According to me, people are waiting now to experience and explore new styles, cuts and colours. With almost two years of not taking care of their hair or allowing their hair to go grey, people will now try to experiment. I predict that after all those no or low maintenance, dark colours, people are now ready for more vibrant shades. It is going to be blonde with classic short haircuts, so you can take a Paris Hilton look as a reference for that,” says Kapil Sharma, Founder, Kapil’s Salon and Academy.

French Balayage French balayage is going to rule again in 2023 and it will be widespread with a lot of waves and medium to long hair. It will support Indian clientele from darker to lighter shades and softer waves. This is going to remain a trend and people are going to experiment with this.

Curls + Highlights On curly hair, just highlighting the top part of the curl will be in vogue and this sun-kissed technique, touching only the upper part of the curl, making it lighter, will rule the roost, without changing the texture of the hair. Lot of curly-haired people would like to keep their curls, and use this technique to add colours with the top light.

Vibrant Look A lot of clients from the young generation with different textures and straight or curly hair are going to experiment with vibrant crazy semipermanent shades such as lilac, purple, violet, blue, green, yellow and pink. These are the colours we are likely to see, because as I mentioned earlier, people want to feel that vibrancy. A lot of crazy colours are going to be trending. And after a few washes, when it all goes away, they will change it other brighter hues.

Softer Fades in Men For the men, softer fades are going to be in demand with blonde, ash blonde, dark colours and black-n-pepper shades. My prediction is that softer fade haircuts with tones of blonde and highlights, is going to come back to rule the charts in 2023.

Two Tones or Multiple Tones Two tones or multiple tones are going to come back in 2023, where two different shades of contrasting or complementary colour are going to be on the same head. It can be subtle complementing shades, vibrant shades, contrast shades, merged shades or absolute contrast to half part of the hair, which appears as a blonde, blended two tones or multiple tones. This is going to be a trend! PBHJ
