Now that we are well into the new year, and all the super ficial resolutions are already broken and thrown out of the window, it is time to take stock of the real deal. What do we really want to achieve this year? If I were to list out certain resolutions for salons based on the many interactions I have had with industry experts in the last few months, I would start with ‘business’. Considering where the Indian economy stands today, the world is looking at us because we have immense potential, no dearth of opportunities and leadership qualities that are crucial for entrepreneurship. These parameters hold true for the salon industry, too. We are done with the ‘fly by night’ business owners who came in to make a quick buck. What we really need are sustainable businesses. Salon businesses that can empower women, train the underprivileged, encourage aspiring talent, turn in a profitable bottom line and leave a legacy. Concepts like Start-up India, Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat are as relevant to the service sector as they are to the IT and other industries.
This year forth it is the skilled and the passionate workforce of the industry that will lead the fray. And as much as we are enjoying the world’s gaze on us, we need to look at the world, too, for inspiration and opportunities. Inspiration to excel at our skills and opportunity to put India on the global map of beauty and wellness.
