Bye-bye hair ageing!

Anti-ageing is no longer the domain of skincare specialists. Hair deserves it, too. Maxxelle Colours’ anti-ageing colour treatment is a new concept that’s all the rage now. Zingranwon shatsang, Co-founder, Zido salon, Mumbai, gives Priyanka Parshurami an experience of this treatment.

Ihave a checklist for hair colouration and it does not include carrying Instagram screenshots to my colourist. While I rely on the professional to give me good advice on choice of colours, my personal checklist covers a host of other things, which includes common concerns of a working woman.

1. Will the colour cause hair damage? (I simply don’t have time to invest in an extensive care routine)

2. Will my hair get frizzy? (I really can’t afford any more bad hair days)

3. Will I end up with more greys? (that’s my worst nightmare!)

When Maxxelle Colours invited me to have an experiential with Zingranwon Shatsang (Zing), Celebrity Colourist and Co-Founder, Zido Salon, Mumbai, I went armed with my questions. Zing started off with a detailed consultation session that covered examining my hair texture, tone, volume and scalp. She enquired about allergies and my lifestyle. True to her signature style of perfection, Zing firstly did a patch test on me and then demonstrated the hair colour on a few strands. I decided to go for highlights and in a couple of days I found myself in Zing’s chair, all set to have a hair makeover.

Zing wanted to complement the colour with a cut. As she proceeded to give me a haircut, she answered my questions about the anti-ageing colour treatment by Maxxelle Colours.

The science behind it

She explained, “Anti-ageing colour treatment has low ammonia content that ensures perfect colour penetration, even in less receptive hair. It is formulated with goji extract, chamomile and quaternised keratin. It uses nanotechnology for deeper penetration and smart technology that allows the peroxide to get activated only when it touches the hair. Hairdressers get to mix the entire volume of colour at one go.”

Essential tip

“Make sure the salon has comfortable seating and an ergonomic backwash chair. This enhances the customer’s experience and makes colouration more fun.”

*The anti-ageing colour takes a minimum time of a week to settle in. You may not be able to see the exact shade on your hair immediately.

I have very frizzy and dry hair, and I was curious to know how the ingredients will help enhance my hair. Zing assured me that the plant extracts in the product help retain moisture within the strands thereby controlling dryness and frizz. This also helps in highlighting the colour application.

Colouration process

Zing had asked me to wash my hair a day prior the sebum forms a protective layer for the scalp; this helps avoid scalp irritation during the colouring process. The colour treatment was meant to last 4-5 hours, so I settled in comfortably as Zing proceeded with sectioning and application. She kept cling-wrapping foiling the coloured sections, letting the heat do its magic on the colour. As I wanted subtle colours, Zing suggested a mixture of brown (Maxxelle No. 9.37) and red (Maxxelle No. 7.66). After 45 minutes, she took off the foils, shampooed my hair twice with Maxxelle colour shampoo and blast dried it. A blow dry later, I was enjoying my coloured and voluminous tresses that were frizz-free and hydrated.

Choose your salon wisely

Maxxell Colours’ anti-ageing colour treatment requires expert supervision, making it important that you select your colourist or salon prudently. The treatment helps in slowing down the ageing process of your hair, allowing it to retain shine, elasticity and moisture for long. It works on the hair health even as it leaves you with amazing colour results.* It is, therefore, best to choose a colourist who is technically sound and well-versed with every facet of colouration. I am happy to have done it with Zing. PBHJ
