DIVINE BRIDE

SHINE JANARTHANAN, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR, TIME MACHINE SALON AND ACADEMY, CREATED AN EXCLUSIVE BRIDAL COLLECTION FOR PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY X HAIRDRESSERS JOURNAL. IN A CANDID CONVERSATION WITH PRIYANKA PARSHURAMI, SHE TALKS ABOUT THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE LOOKS AND TRENDS TO FOLLOW FOR THE QUINTESSENTIAL INDIAN BRIDAL CLIENTELE.

Indian weddings are rich in culture and tradition, and every occasion or ceremony has a colour associated with it. Shine Janarthanan, Founder and Director, Time Machine Salon and Academy, and her team looked at wedding colours for inspiration while creating this bridal collection. Speaking about her preferred colour palette for the modern Indian bride, she said, “I suggest minimal soft colours to my bride, for added texture and shine. So, I would go with soft browns, mocha or gold. I would definitely avoid bright tones as there is already so much happening in terms of make-up,outfit and jewellery.”

“In our collection, too, we have kept the colours sober, so that the styling can stand out more.”

STYLE IS THE HERO

“Most new-age brides want a hairstyle that makes them look young, modern and beautiful. I feel that brides should experiment with their looks. As Indians, we have the privilege of celebrating multiple functions, so brides should try out different looks for each event.

For the pheras, they can look more traditional, while for a cocktail event, they can look more sexy and glamorous. For the haldi ceremony, they can do a pretty soft look and go with lustrous flowing hair for the mehndi.”

“For the wedding ’dos, most brides prefer keeping long lengths. They are not open to experimenting with lengths as it may limit the styling options. But after the wedding, everyone wants to go short!”

In this collection, Shine has used a unique maang tikka that starts from the forehead and goes all the way till the end of the braid, with chains going around the head, creating a stunning effect.

THE POWER OF CARE

“Kiara Advani’s bridal look is the latest ‘it’ thing but I am sure fashionistas are now waiting for Malaika Arora’s wedding look.”

“Bridal hair care is important for bridesto-be to get the look they desire. You really need to maintain the health of your hair, because only if the hair is healthy will the styling last long and look beautiful as well. So, at least five months prior to your wedding day, start with in-salon protein and strengthening treatments every month to maintain the quality of your hair and eat healthy, too.”
