HIGH ON COLOUR

Brides-to-be are scouring their social media feeds for the right hair colour. Let’s find out why Priyanka Parshurami is recommending the Matrix Colour Melt as the ultimate bridal choice, ahead of the wedding season.

The quest to find the right colour palette for a contemporary Indian bride led me to a meeting with Nancy Jain, Educator, Matrix India. She suggested that I try out their new Matrix Colour Melt.

IIt is a versatile colour technique that melts three different shades to give a seamless blended result. The crown part is darker shade, followed by medium tone in mid lengths and light shade at the ends. It’s designed for the new-age colourist. There are four unique colour melts -Choco, Red, Golden and Mocha. Hair colourists can pick the perfect melt based on their client’s needs and be as creative as they want.

To find out if the technique and the colour palette were indeed as appropriate for the Indian bride as Jain was claiming, I decided to give it a try. My experience with Matrix Colour Melt was fixed at Plush Unisex Salon, Khar, Mumbai, under Jain’s supervision. Read on to know how it went from there!

IN THE COLOURIST’S CHAIR

It started with a detailed hair consultation, with Jain checking for the hair type, texture, strength, original colour, previous chemical treatments and allergies. Considering my skin tone and lifestyle, she said that Mocha Melt was the right choice for me. There were three steps to the process:

1. PRE-LIGHTENING

In keeping with the look that Jain had planned for me, small sections were made and the pre-lightener was applied and rinsed off after 20 minutes.

2. APPLICATION

The second step was colour application. For my hair, Jain used Matrix Socolor 5.8 for the darker shade, while opting for 7.8 for the medium and 12 for the lighter shades. All the three colours were blended to create a ‘melted’ look. The colours are enriched with a pre-bonded formula, which protects the hair. After 30 minutes or so, the colour was washed off. This was followed by the mask application to ensure my tresses remained moisturised.

3. STYLING

And finally, my freshly coloured mane was blow dried and styled into soft waves.
