What do you predict will be the dominant looks for 2024, in terms of make-up for base, eyes and lips?

Base will be dewy and fresh, to look like your actual skin and appear like there’s no foundation on it. To be honest, with eyes and lips there are a few micro trends that would dominate instead of one single trend. For the summers, pastels and light tones for the eyes with lots of mascara and bold liners (read coloured eyeliners) will trend. The latter part of the year will bring out the pop of colours with stronger, bolder eyeliners that are almost graphic. Imagine gothic eyes but in colour instead of black. Fuller looking lips in natural and neutral colours are in. Red and pink lips will also be a big trend to watch out for.

Are there any specific influences (celebrities, social media, fashion, etc.) you believe will heavily impact make-up trends in 2024?

Fashion, yes to some extent, as the make-up needs to suit what is being worn. But celebs and social media also play a big part in the trend watch as they go hand-inhand. Social media influencers try out looks that celebs have done and the audience then understands that the particular look is achievable.

Do you foresee any significant changes in techniques?

No, I don’t! What is existent would be perfected and made better. There could be some revolutionary products that would be in the market to make the skin look perfect, even though the client does not have great skin.

Is there a particular palette that you think will become popular in 2024?

There are many brands to watch out for, the ones that are value for money. For many colours in a single palette go for Jeffree Star, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Huda Beauty and Morphe. They launch their summer collections in March and the winter collection in in September and they would make for a good buy.

What challenges do you anticipate in adopting these new trends in your artistry?

Availability of some brands and specific tools can be a challenge in India, unless you travel frequently.

How do you plan to keep your team updated and trained on the latest techniques and styles for 2024?

I do frequent demos with the team before a job that has specific requirements. Also, I provide the team with the necessary products needed as some may not have them in their current kit.

Keeping up with trends makes good business sense for make-up artists. What is your opinion about this statement?

Oh absolutely! Client and job requirements are constantly changing and adapting to the new trends in the market. If you not update you will get replaced by someone who is current and fresh. Make-up is like fashion, constantly changing and moving forward.
