How can I do smokey eyes for clients with heavily hooded eyes?

• Amrita Nishchal, New Delhi

For hooded eyes, you can use shimmery brown shadow on the lids. You must avoid a darker crease line as it will make the eyes look more hooded. Instead, use a black pencil smudged on the upper and lower lash line and further smoke it with a chocolate brown shade. It will give you the per fect smokey eyes, which are soft and demure yet very glam.

How can I handle clients who have a set look in mind for each make-up element? It restricts my creativity and sometimes all of those elements don’t go well together.

• Jessica Mehta, Ahmedabad

A client is always right, come what may. By understanding their likes, you can automatically create magic and win their hearts. Remember, clients will recommend us only when they are happy with our services.

What is one of your most recommended hacks for acing make-up for monsoon weddings?

• Shipra Mirchandani, Gurgaon

Monsoons are sticky and humid, so, always remember ‘less is more’. You can use a water-based foundation and eyeshadow and waterproof mascara. It’s going to save you a lot of stress as water is hydra and it seals and locks your make-up.

How can I help grooms who want to look polished but are not used to wearing make-up?

• Aman Anand, Chandigarh

Grooms look the best in ultra-natural, matte finish. Skin-boosting serum and warm pink undertone concealers can be your go-to. Avoid using foundation, rather use a setting powder which looks natural, radiant, and looks like a second skin. You must refrain from too much colour for men and instead, use warm neutral tones to look naturelle.

How can I build a strong portfolio that showcases my versatility and skill?

• Heena Awasthi, Lucknow

The best way is to collaborate with various photographers and designers for their model shoots as it will give you exposure to a vast variety of work. Also, you can collaborate with makeup brands and newcomer models, where you can showcase your talent and bring out the best in you. Always remember, your work speaks volumes.

I have been in the make-up field for two years. What are the common mistakes that I can avoid for becoming a reputed make-up artist?

• Aditya Vats, Mumbai

As a newcomer, be open to suggestions. Your mantra should be to ‘talk less and work more’. Being humble will be forever beneficial as your personal aura, positivity, and humility can take you a long way. So, be flexible and explore the best around you.
