ASK OUR EXPERT

Celebrity Hair and Make-up Artist Ojas Rajani solves the queries of beauty professionals, helping them build upon their craft and business.

Please suggest the golden rule to create a natural, no-makeup make-up look.

Prerna Nischal

Achieving a no-make-up look is an art. Start with skincare by applying an intense hydrating cream and a primer. Hide imper fections with a concealer, using a patting technique to keep it in place. Next, apply a dewy finish radiance foundation to your face, neck, and behind the ears. Set with a pink-toned setting powder for a fresh look, then use a dewy finish makeup fixing spray. Use natural-toned eyeshadow, a nude rose lip tint on lips and cheeks, and finish with mascara. This will give you a fresh, out-of-a-skincommercial look.

How can we choose the right lipstick shade for different skin tones?

Shashank Bansal

For fair skin, use peach or pink undertones, and for medium to dark skin use coral or brick tones, as they enhance the face with a fresh look.

As artists, how can we maintain the hygiene of our make-up brushes and tools?

Asmita Rohira

A make-up artist should use a sanitising spray before and after using brushes, eyeshadows, or blush palettes. Wash your brush kit every week with baby soap and use makeup disinfecting wipes regularly. Use disposable eye and lip brushes or cotton buds; it’s economical and hygienic.

Can you share a few tips for doing make-up on mature skin?

Tarang Bhatia

For mature skin, start by using a line-erasing primer under the eyes and at laugh lines and always set it with a pressed powder. For mature skin, you must avoid creamy products and rather use matte ones as they blur out imper fections. Also, you must avoid setting spray on mature skin. Just remember ‘less is more’.

Is it necessary to always follow trends as an artist? How can I stay true to my uniqueness in the world ruled by trends?

Indrajit Das

You should aim to be the trendsetter rather than following trends. Try to stick to your USP and remember, minimal chic glam is always a sure-shot winner. I have stuck to my minimal glam natural make-up style for the last 30 years and am still the ruling queen because of it.

How should I approach make-up for milestone photoshoots, like maternity and pre-wedding?

Ishita Bhalla

Maternity shoots are all about femininity, focusing on a fresh peaches and cream look. A flushed face always looks gorgeous with a rosy glow. Avoid black eyeliner and use brown instead to soften the look and give your client a princess-like appearance. For pre-wedding shoots, the goal is to look natural and real. Opt for open, wavy hair and make-up that features a cleverly blended luminous skin tone with peachy nudes on the eyes and lips. Avoid eyelashes rather do a double cost mascara.
