Crafting A Cut

Rajwinder Sidhu, Co-Founder, BMS Hair Tattoo Bros, Punjab, takes Priyanka Parshurami on a creative journey of crafting hair tattoos.

Rajwinder Sidhu, along with his brother Gurwinder Sidhu, has carved a niche in the hair tattooing segment. His journey in hairdressing started when he had to give up his career in kabaddi due to injuries.

“I have always had a passion for hair. When I could no longer play Kabaddi, I wanted to find another way to channel my creativity and my love for intricate designs. Hair tattooing seemed like the per fect fit,” Sidhu shares.

This unique art form allows him to combine creativity and precision. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the transformation and the confidence it brings to my clients. Hair tattooing has become a fulfilling new chapter in my life, allowing me to continue expressing my passion in a meaningful way,” he adds.

Designing and executing a hair tattoo is a game of Metoculous planning. Sidhu’s process begins with a thorough consultation with the client to understand their vision and preferences. “We discuss various design options, and I often create sketches to visualise the final look. Once we finalise the design, I carefully plan the execution, considering factors like hair texture and growth patterns. On the day of the appointment, I take my time to ensure every detail is per fect, using precise techniques to achieve the desired results. This careful planning and patient approach ensures that each hair tattoo is a unique and highquality piece of art,” Singh explains.

To stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in hair tattooing, Sidhu follows several talented artists on Instagram and YouTube. “These platforms are great for discovering new styles and learning innovative ideas. While I draw inspiration from these artists, our ideas and visions are entirely our own. This blend of external inspiration and personal creativity helps us keep our work fresh and completely unique,” he adds.

We conduct a thorough assessment of the client’s hair and scalp during the initial consultation

CREATIVITY AT ITS BEST

One of the main challenges Rajwinder faces while per forming hair tattoos is dealing with the unique head and skull shapes of each client, as well as varying hair density and quality. “To overcome these challenges, we conduct a thorough assessment of the client’s hair and scalp during the initial consultation. This allows us to tailor the design and technique to suit their individual characteristics. By adapting our approach and using customized techniques, we ensure that the final result is both aesthetically pleasing and per fectly suited to each client,” he explains.

For barbers interested in learning hair tattooing. Sidhu’s biggest tip is to remember that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. “Start by learning from good mentors who can guide you through the basic and advanced techniques. It’s important to decide if you want to pursue this field for the long term as there is a significant amount of downtime involved. Developing patience, attention to detail, and a creative eye are essential skills, along with investing in high-quality tools. Practice consistently and be prepared for the steady learning curve,” he advises.

Rajwinder is extremely excited about the future of hair tattooing within the barbering industry. “A lot of creative artists are doing amazing work both nationally and internationally, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. I know that great things are ahead for this art form, and I am thrilled to be a part of such an innovative and dynamic field. The upcoming trends and innovations promise to bring even more creativity and skill to hair tattooing. I can’t wait to see how it evolves and to create some art along the way.”

Rajwinder Singh’s journey is a testament to this, proving that passion, dedication and a love for what you do can lead to remarkable success.
