FROM ENTERTAINMENT TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Actor and Telugu Bigg Boss Star, VJ Sunny shares his journey into the salon industry with Priyanka Parshurami.

Being an actor and a participant of Telugu Bigg Boss, VJ Sunny is familiar with the limelight. But his latest venture takes him from the world of entertainment to entrepreneurship. He has launched The Barber Company (TBC) Luxury Salon in Madhapur, Hyderabad. Despite being an outsider to the salon and beauty industry, Sunny’s decision to take up the franchise of TBC is rooted in his personal preference for quality haircare and a determination to bring international standards to his home city.

A QUEST FOR QUALITY

The motivation to step into the salon business came from his personal experience. “I was always searching for the right place to get a good hairstyle in Hyderabad. While there were experts, something was always missing,” he recalls. His journey to find the perfect hair service led him to experiment with different salons. He soon realised that while there was talent, guidance and international techniques were lacking. This sparked the idea of partnering with a global name to bridge the gap.

Sunny was inspired by global hair trends and, in particular, by renowned hair stylist Jordan from Australia. Despite a missed opportunity to meet Jordan in person during a trip to Australia, Sunny’s determination didn’t falter. His friend facilitated the introduction, and from that point, the idea of bringing The Barber Company to Hyderabad took root. “Jordan was very supportive. It was a challenge, but we worked together to bring this unique salon experience to Hyderabad,” he shares.

BREAKING INTO THE INDUSTRY

Starting a business in an industry he had no prior experience in was daunting, but Sunny was undeterred. His research into the global hair industry, primarily through Instagram and YouTube, gave him insights into trends and techniques.

Sunny credits TBC’s founder, Jordan, for making the process smoother. “It became easy because Jordon helped us a lot. We spoke about what we wanted to create, and he guided us every step of the way.

We implemented everything we discussed, and now we’re proud to have the first TBC in India,” he says with enthusiasm.

Sunny’s partnership with TBC has not only brought a new level of professionalism to Hyderabad’s hair industry but also raised awareness about the importance of quality hair services. “Many people do not realise how much care their hair needs. It’s not just a haircut – it’s about enhancing your beauty,” Sunny explains.

THE ROAD AHEAD

Looking ahead, VJ Sunny plans to expand TBC’s presence in Hyderabad and beyond. His focus is not on rapid expansion but on building a sustainable, quality-driven business. “We’re getting franchise offers from across the country, but we want to take our time and do it right. We want to ensure that every salon offers the same level of quality and professionalism,” he says.

In the next five years, Sunny envisions TBC growing steadily across India, with a focus on maintaining international standards. “Hair care is part of everyone’s lifestyle now. The salon industry is only going to grow, and we’re excited to be part of that journey,” he affirms.

ADVICE FOR ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS

For Indian entrepreneurs looking to collaborate with international brands, Sunny’s advice is simple: be ready to learn. “When you work with global partners, you gain access to knowledge and techniques that can elevate your business. It’s all about learning from each other and growing together,” he concludes.

With a firm foundation and a clear vision for the future, VJ Sunny is ready to make his mark not only in the entertainment industry but in the world of luxury salons as well.
