Shaping up your CONFIDENCE

Are body contouring treatments really meant for me? It’s a question that bothers many of us. Kanishka Ramchandani visits Dr Trasi Clinic and La Piel Skin Clinic, Mumbai, to understand how noninvasive contouring works.

Getting your body in shape requires strenuous workout and focussed diets. But as you lose weight, you have to contend with problems such as loss of volume and sagging muscles. To help you with skin tightening and muscle toning, one of the most popular choices is a body contouring treatment.

A non-invasive solution, body contouring will allow you to reshape and define your physique. Curious about its potential, I recently opted for a body contouring treatment, focussing on my abdominal area at Dr Trasi Clinic and La Piel Clinic in Khar, Mumbai. My goal was to explore its efficacy and witness firsthand how science-backed treatments can enhance one’s silhouette without surgery.

At first, I had a detailed discussion with Consultant Dermatologist Dr Shefali Trasi Nerurkar. She asked me questions about my medical history and assessed certain areas of my body. She suggested six sittings of the muscle toning treatment with the CMSlim device, spread across three weeks.

She further explained that the device’s High Intensity Electromagnetic Muscle Training (HI-EMT), or electromagnetic energy, replicates the effect of squats or crunches on the targeting muscles. For instance, a 30-minute treatment focussed on the abdomen is equivalent to 20,00030,000 squats. The wavelengths have the capacity to bypass skin and fat and reach the muscles, stimulating contractions to strengthen and tone them. Since the contractions trigger the release of free fatty acids, it helps break down localised fat deposits.

Dr Nerurkar then directed me to Dr Shivani Bali, Head of Department, HealthyLife (the clinic’s weight-loss section), who did a thorough analysis of my lifestyle and eating habits and created a personalised diet and exercise plan for me. The idea was to complement the treatment with lifestyle changes to help me achieve a toned body.

A CUSTOMISED APPROACH

In the clinic’s treatment room, I was made to lie down while the two paddles of the device were placed on my bare abdomen, held in place with a strap. There are five types of customised programmes to choose from – HIIT (for fat burning), Hypertrophy (for muscle volume), Strength (for muscle strength), Combo 1 (HIIT + Hypertrophy) and Combo 2 (Hypertrophy and Strength). The CMSlim device was set for HIIT and as it started, I could feel gentle tapping on my stomach, which gradually increased in rhythmic beats.

During the 60-minute treatment, the frequency was raised by 2-3 notches. I was able to take on the highest level of frequency from the fourth sitting onward. This gradual increase in frequency was important for my comfort level. Throughout the six sittings, I hardly felt any discomfort, and there was no sweating, pain or redness either. I was able to resume work immediately after, making it an ideal ‘lunchtime’ procedure. The CMSlim body contouring treatment can be done for other body parts, too, as per the doctor’s advice.

I noticed considerable tightening of abdominal muscles during the course of the sittings. A sustainable weight loss plan with a proper diet and an exercise routine is important for long-term results. The clinic also offers other body contouring services such as CoolSculpting to enhance your fitness journey. Their holistic approach and the constant support of the team has inspired me to achieve my fitness goals.

My experience with body contouring has been enlightening and encouraging. While results require patience and maintenance, I am now committed to pursuing this course of action for a healthier, happier ‘ME.’
