For years the term ‘beauty parlour’ has been a synonym for salons. In a country like India, where the population is 70 per cent rural and 20 per cent middle class, around 95 per cent of the salon industry is still unorganised. In the last 20 years, the industry has seen a CAGR of 30 per cent, which has been possible because of the inputs made by bigger brands to develop the market. Quality of service has always been the key feature. The biggest change and growth in the last 20 years has been attributed to one key factor -the interiors of a salon.

Nowadays clients not only want good service, they want a complete experience, which is not possible without a good interior. While designing the Insiya Bridal & Skin Studio, the most important factor, which we kept in mind was a ‘wow’ experience for the client in every area of the salon -hair, beauty, pedicure, make-up and nails.

Every corner of the salon is spacious, with an edge of latest design, which pampers all the senses. A fully dedicated nail area with an open ambience makes the client experience without any smell. Pedicure area with luxury couches and contemporary lighting make the complete experience a royal one. A big makeup room with a changing area creates a great comfort for the bride. Sleek and contemporary hairdressing stations with a huge glass make the place look very spacious.

Natural sunlight makes the salon very lively and young. Big size beauty rooms make the client feel very relaxed in a city like Mumbai where everything is too compact. A private hair ritual area is the best pick by the clients.

Top tips

• Demarcate the areas, keeping in mind the practical aspects of operations

• Right mix of colours and lights, which makes it contemporary and classy

• Right blend of designer furniture with the comfort zone of both client and the therapist

DESIGN VISION

“Having worked in the beauty industry for 20 years, I have experienced the percentage of area allocated to skin, hand and feet is much smaller than hair, in most salons. In the last 15 years, the hair industry has seen a big boom with international brands and their contribution in teaching the salon industry, whereas efforts from skin brands were not as aggressive,” says Pooja Garg, Director.

“We wanted to give clients a completely different experience in skin and make-up along with the best hair experience. We have focused on at-home skincare in a bigger way along with hair.”

In a market like Mumbai, especially in Bandra where clients are highly educated and have exposure to international circuits in a big way, the challenge was to offer them something really different.

“Our first and foremost priority was a luxury ambience, which is spacious for the clients to feel relaxed and get a ‘wow’ experience,” adds Naunihal Singh, CEO.

“As we all know real estate prices are sky high and people use each and every inch to generate business. We made sure that every area of the salon speaks luxury.”

INSIDE LOOK

The salon starts with a sleek reception table with Duco paint with a huge open area in front that has been used for the nail section, with hanging wrought iron stands and a fresh flavour of design in wrought iron nail tables and chairs.

The retail segment has been the complete focus of the project. There is a 500 sq ft of retail area on walls, which holds four skincare and four hair care brands. Sleek and contemporary hairdressing stations along with copper gold border with embossed logo makes it a class apart. A right mix of designer lights along with required light makes the overall look very soothing. Automated shampoo stations take care of client comfort along with premium quality furniture.
