Hair and make-up trends ruled the ramp as fashion led the way at Lakmé Fashion week XFDCI 2023.

Above the star-studded catwalk, above all entertainment and extravaganza, it was fashion that ruled the hearts at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI 2023.

With avant garde and sustainable as the buzzwords for this season, the line-up of upcoming trends was beautifully complemented by classy hair and make-up. While the clothes were the hero of every show, each model presented a well-curated package of fashion, accessories, hair style and make-up. We present to you a few of the key trends that caught our attention as trailblazing ones for the next season.

Lakmé Salon curated a hair and make-up collection called Beneath, in collaboration with ace designer Vaishali S. The collection drew inspiration from various elements of the ocean such as Conch, Coral, Kelp, Octopus and Wave. Quite aptly, the National Gold Medalist Swimmer, Richa Mishra, was the showstopper for the show.

“The hair was designed to be an extension of Vaishali’s designs. Staying true to our brand’s goal, we have mindfully steered away from plastic accessories and used natural hair to recreate the various elements from nature. The team of Lakmé Salon Backstage Experts have integrated minute details like picking the exact colours of the elements, playing with textures and even using gravity defying techniques to enhance the beauty of the final look. These hairstyles can easily be replicated in our salons by our experts for our customers,” said Pooja Singh, National Creative Director, Hair, Lakmé Salon.

For Wave, the colouration included a blue palette on layered bob styled as beachy waves. The Octopus look was created with freehand balayage technique using burgundy. For Kelp, shades of copper were used on ‘shredded’ haircuts. Conch brought the focus onto mushroom blonde, gold and light brown palette, while Coral showcased breathtaking reds and the ‘shredded’ haircut. The make-up looks included ultra-glossy finish for the skin, watercolour translucent shadow, heavy mascara, full glossy lips, high sheen highlighter and lastly contour to highlight the features.

Sonakshi Sinha was the showstopper for ITRH by Mohit Rai and Ridhi Bansal.

Commenting on the look, Savleen Manchandana who glammed up Sinha, said, “I wanted to incorporate all the elements of glitz and glamour but also wanted to keep it modern and relevant. We played with glitter to go with the aesthetics of the collection and the brand but kept the overall look minimal. We kept the skin fresh, lips nude and matte since eyes were the highlight of the look. We played with glitter, swarovski and eyeliner for the eyes. Sonakshi made the whole look so much better with her attitude and smile.”

The looks created by the Lakmé Salon team for designers Rina Dhaka and Saisha revolved around the concepts of sultry and glam. Loose waves and sensuous nude make-up were the highlights of this look.

Fresh faced beauty was the theme of the looks created for designers Anushree Reddy and Puneet Balana. the lakmé Salon team used real flowers as hair accessories to complement the zardozi work on the clothes while shimmer and sheen were the highlights of the make-up

Manish Malhotra celebrated one year of Diffuse at the Grand Finale of lakmé Fashion Week X FDCi 2023. the second drop of Diffuse along with lakmé’s bold endeavour to be #UnapoloegeticallyMe presented an inspiring showcase on the gaming-inspired runway called ‘Retags’. Malhotra took a refreshing and playful approach by redefining the societal labels, with a gaming-inspired collection. the showcase presented prints inspired by iconic-games in androgynous styles having a blast alongside a high-octane colour palette of stark blacks, electric purples, shocking neons, unconventional constructs, with the use of unmissable fabrics. these bold designs were further complemented by Daniel Bauer’s expressive make-up, which were an interpretation of each re-tag presented on the runway.

Ananya Panday and Aditya Roy Kapur were the showstoppers for the fashion-forward show. Speaking about the collection, Malhotra said, “Diffuse literally Diffuse-s down the hard-to-digest terms and invests in our signature bling, bold and beautiful to be more unapologetically you. the stylish duo and our showstoppers Ananya Pandya and Aditya Roy Kapoor join the Diffuse tribe this year as they perfectly epitomise the generational values of tomorrow.” PBHJ
