Passing the baton!

The indian beauty industry is today led by GenZers. As they carry forward the legacy of the OGs, they bring their tech-friendly, social media-savvy astuteness to the table.

Professional Beauty India took up the challenge of giving the ‘Young Guns’ of the beauty industry a platform to showcase their talent and business sense during the lockdown of 2020. The young brigade that enthusiastically participated in our virtual interactions is today leading the fray. Yes, the ‘Young Guns’ have evolved into business owners, creative directors, subject matter experts and ace educators. We bring the spotlight on two such enterprising young leaders -Vivek Shyam Bhatia, Scalp Expert, L’Oréal Professionnel and Somita Saha Iyer, International Colourist - to understand from them how they are driving the industry forward.

Haircare at its best

SCALP-CARE EXPERTISE

“Our scalp is just an extension of our skin and it has similar problems and needs treatments. This gave birth to the Scalp Series. I personally started designing this product two years back with the L’Oréal Paris team when they were planning to launch the series in three countries - China, Japan and India. I was the hairdresser from India who helped them understand exactly how it would work on Indian scalp. The team from Paris liked my presentation as it was backed with indepth research. That’s how I went on to become the Global Ambassador for the Scalp Series.

VIVEK SHYAM BHATIA Global Ambassador, Scalp Series - L’Oréal Professionnel

IN-SALON TREATMENTS

“The scalp series is not just a single product. It’s an entire range that caters to different problems. So, it’s much easier for all the hairdressers to offer multiple scalp problem services to their clients. For example, a lot of people do not opt for hair colour due to sensitive scalp issues or allergies. To them, the salons can offer Lipid Tri in the Scalp series, which has to be applied as a layer on the scalp before colouration for an experience free of irritation, itchiness, sensitivity, etc.”

SCALP CARE - NEED OF THE HOUR

“It is important to take good care of your scalp as much as of your hair. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. If you take good care of your scalp, you will definitely have healthy hair growth, thicker strands and lustrous tresses.”

VIBRANT HUES

SOMITA SAHA IYER Expert colorist & Educator tones and suits all Indian skin perfectly.

“Vivid hues are outside the realm of traditional hair colour. They are known by a number of names - fantasy, fun, fashion, rainbow, unicorn or mermaid. These colours range from deep jewel tones, vibrant neons and soft pastels. Bright hair dye is typically semi-permanent but with recent technology some come as a permanent, too. Due to their short lifespan, they can last anywhere from 1 to 10+ washes. Vivid and pastel will have to be reapplied or touched up more frequently than your usual hues.”

WHEN PURPLE-MEETS-PINK

Cerie Flatter is a unique mix of purple and red tones that creates a multi-coloured highlight effect. It can range from dark and inky to light and bright. A magenta shade works for dark and blonde long, medium or short hair. It flatters both dark and fair skin

GIFT OF GILT

Amber Gilt is a less-vivid red hue with golden undertones like bronze and gold. It falls on the warmer side of red shades since its base colours include yellow, orange and gold. Copper suits pretty much every skin tone.

AIRTOUCHED BALAYAGE

In the Mute Blonde Airtouch Balayage, backcombing is used to create a seamless blend of colour. AirTouch is not only a faster and safer alternative to original balayage or ombre hair – it provides better results, too. Balayage hair is relatively low maintenance because it doesn’t touch your roots. Once applied, the colour will remain in your hair, without frequent followup visits to the salon.
