TRAINING TO EXCEL
Harshada Takke, Director, U Takke Salon And Academy, gives Priyanka Parshurami a lowdown into her social work activities with underprivileged women.
Since 2004, Uday Takke Academy has been involved in social work, which includes helping the underprivileged through medical camps, financing the primary education for rural kids and much more. They have also trained and educated underprivileged women and girls in beauty skills to enable them to earn a living for themselves and their families in the mainstream beauty industry.
One such initiative was undertaken by Harshada Takke, Director, U Takke Salon and Academy, at her native place Jamlipada, in association with a local organisation called Hitavardini Sava. This organisation runs a Montessori school with initiatives for skill development among local women. They teach different motor skills, right from motor mechanic to radio repairing.
With the sole aim of giving these women a platform or a roadmap into the mainstream beauty industry where they can earn a living, Takke collaborated with the NGO to conduct a beauty skills training workshop, which included basics of hairdressing and beauty therapy.
The beauty workshop concluded with a competition, with winners getting a chance to take advanced training at the U Takke Academy and assistance in job placements at reputable salons.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Takke says, “I feel the need to give back to the society, to my village and my people as it will help them head towards a better future. When we go to competitions as judges, we see some of these women as participants, showcasing their amazing skillset. We feel proud to have introduced them to the mainstream beauty industry.”
She further explains, “This entire process is like a relay run, where we educate one person and that person goes on to educate a lot more. We intend to keep this compulsive initiative as an on-going process to build a strong and powerful beauty industry.”
