The Foot Facial

Facials are no longer the prerogative of the face. Your feet also deserve the TLC of a facial. Priyanka Parshurami explores PediCalm foot facial at Haircafe Salon, Delhi.

The bustle of writing for India’s top notch beauty magazine and the hustle of working at the country’s busiest beauty expo are enough to keep me on my toes. So, when I came across a ‘facial’ service for the feet, my curiosity was piqued. Naturally I had to try it and I am so glad I did. Read on to know more about my experience. It started with booking an appointment at Haircafe Salon, Delhi, for a foot facial by PediCalm. As I arrived for my appointment, I was introduced to Anil Kumar, the pedicurist, who was assigned to give me the treatment. He started off with a consultation. Upon examining my feet, skin and its texture, he recommended the Glyco Foot Facial for hydration, plumping and skin smoothening.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Pooja Garg, Founder, PediCalm explained, “The glycolic acid foot facial is a powerful treatment that effectively tackles discolouration, slipper marks and tanning on your feet. Glycolic acid is a whitening agent and the Glyco Foot Facial treatment contains 12 per cent of it. Its brightening properties lift the skin tone 2-3 levels, leaving your feet looking revitalised and flawless.”

Since I have dry and itchy skin, there were a lot of scratch marks on my feet. I was curious to know if Glyco Foot Facial would help me. Anil assured me that this 7-step treatment includes the algae mask, which detoxifies the skin, removes dead skin particles, and evens out the skin tone, and it will get me assured results.

THE FOOT FACIAL PROCESS

The Glyco Foot Facial treatment is a 60-90-minute process, including consultation. It includes the following steps:

Before
After

Essential tip “A foot facial shows results in a relaxed mind and body. Ensure the salon has comfortable chairs to enhance your foot facial experience.”

Step 1: Anil soaked my feet in warm water with Glyco crystals to remove dull, dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.

Step 2: He then added glycolic de-crystalizer in the water to dissolve the crystal, and used the cleared water to wash my feet as this nourishing and refreshing solution softens, cleanses and refreshes the skin.

Step 3: After applying the glycolic cleanser to wet skin, he gently massaged my feet and rinsed off with plenty of water as it helps remove dead cells and impurities.

Step 4: Then he applied a glyco foot scrub to moist skin, gently massaged in circular motions. This exfoliated my skin and made it smooth and soft.

Step 5: And then came the best part! Like any other facial, the foot facial had a message wherein Anil used a nourishing cream and circular motions for 5-10 minutes to relax my feet.

Step 6: The showstopper algae mask came on. He left it on my feet for 15 minutes. This mask detoxifies the skin, removes dead skin particles and evens the skin tone.

Step 7: Finally, he applied a polishing oil and massaged it in for 5-10 minutes, making my feet glow.

CHOOSE YOUR SALON WISELY

Foot facial is an experience-based service that takes regular pedicures notches higher. It is a fairly new concept and if you want to try it, you will have to select a therapist that understands the technical and experiential aspects of the treatment thoroughly.

“If you have dry skin, there are chances of having a little irritation on application of polishing oil. Make sure to tell your therapist to dab it with a wet towel.”
